Bonus points for age of boiler.

We just removed this boiler today and we are waiting for new one to be delivered. So I decided to post a picture of the old one.

Is it a Lochinvar Power-Fin? I'd guess about 15 yrs old?

    A jingle please

Alternately, it seems we could have played David Letterman’s “Does it float?” game.

It looks like this boiler drowned in just a few inches of leaky water.

    Wow, venom spewing towards Lochinvar!

Did you have a bad experience with a Lochinvar product? I would like to know the product, the problem, and how it was resolved.

I believe that Lochinvar makes some fine products, has an excellent support staff with great engineering, and currently has one of the best mod/cons on the market today.

    Just my professional opinion.

    But it *is* a Lochinvar....

Says so on the nameplate, strong opinions aside...

So, what is the story behind this abused beast?

Sorry Paul, lingo among steamfitters in Seattle. The commercial stuff can be a little temprimental. I find that if you set them up right (perfectly with Magnehelics) and clean them regularly you won't have many problems. Combustion and pressures must be EXACTLY to manufacturer specs. They also had some hot surface igniter issues.

However if you don't take care of em or set em up right you'll hate em. And I mean hate em. Guys that have had ol reliable cast iron sectionals or scotch marine boilers that you can ignore gave em the name Lockinjunk.

    We have a winner

Paul got it right it is a espresso machine it is call a Lovaventa Espresso machine. It is about 15 yrs old and is a 750,000 btu boiler. Oh by the way the second boiler was running up until friday, Thats when I received the no heat call and I had to tell the owners it was dead. Now the boiler looks the same way as the other one, It is 250,000 btu boiler and it was taking care of the building. I have no idea why they sized it that way but they did. We had bid on the project only a couple of weeks ago and the owners were hoping it would last until the new one arrived.

The new boiler that we a installing is a Viessmann VD2-270 Vitorond boiler with a modulating burner should be here on friday. I will post pictures after we are up and running the new one.

You are also right, There was about 2 inches of water in the bottom of the boiler. I couldn't image how that boiler even ran at all.

I am expecting to see Top Cat emerge from the top lid. It would make a good trash can.

    no heat this week?

Just curious, you say the Viessmann won't arrive until
Friday, does that mean these folks are without heat all
    week?

Jim, The old boiler puked on January 12th, They are running electric units in the area that they need heat. We were in the process of bidding on the project and waiting to here from the board members when in died. I am very impressed with Viessmann on how they were able to ship the boiler so fast. They really went the extra mile for this emergency change out. I called on monday the 15th and they had it to me on friday the 19th.

    nice boiler, but

that is a great boiler, but i hope that this isn't the condition that you are going to leave it in. aren't you going to do something about all those loose wire conduits hanging off all over the front of the boiler. it really makes the end product look like it was installed without care. i hope you don't take offense to my comments, but i think it should look just as good as it runs. allenleo.

No problem, I have to go back to make adjustments on the control. I was just happy to get them heat.
