Non 0xygen Barrier PEX Problem

While annoying, this problem is not the end of the world. I would recommend seperating your boilers from the non-barrier pex with a heat exchanger. This will allow for less disturbance of the system and will protect the boiler from the evils of oxygen! Just get a few facts ie: entering and exiting water temperature from boiler system, entering and exiting water temperature of supply (radidator side) and give a quick call to your local wholesale and they should be able to hook you up. Happy Heating!

    Non 0xygen Barrier PEX Problem

    The Senario:
Part-time private residence in mountains with multiple 10 year old cast iron boilers with non-oxygen barrier PEX and propylene glycoled fluid. 8 of the boiler heat exchanger have corroded and failed. Systems functions are home heating, domestic hotwater and snow melt.

They have determined the the failure was caused by oxygen infiltration thru the PEX.

The consulting engineer is looking for a solution to the problem.

    Any Ideas?
  • Non-oxygen barrier system

The only solution to your situation that does not involve replacing system components is to add a corrosion inhibitor treatment. The Rhomar Pro-Tek 922 treatment has an oxygen scavenger along with multi-metal corrosion inhibitors. The oxygen scavenger will deal with the oxygen for a period of time while the film forming corrosion inhibitors have time to form a protective coating. This will provide the long-term protection.

We also have an inhibited glycol, RhoGard, that contains the Pro-Tek inhibitors already added.

You can get product info on our website, www.rhomarwater.com.

  • Damage is already done...

Stainless steel modcons, non ferrous ancillary components and watch the fuel bills drop by 30 % minimum...

When are people going to learn that oxygen barrier IS an issue???

    Don't leave home without it...
