Remove Radiator

If you're positive that the rad will never be reinstalled, why not remove the piping back to the main and plug/cap there?

Remove Radiator
I have a steam system. Prior owner removed a radiator and the caped it off. The pipe is always cold and I get banging when the heat cycle starts on that section. How sould I resolve the banging? Can I install a #1 vent instead of a cap.0 -
The connection is in a bad spot. Need to do some serious work to do that. They built rooms around that section of pipe.0
