It certainly can, and a <a href="http://www.caleffi.us/caleffi/en_US/Site/Products/Catalogue/args/sezione/Family030_Hydronic_valves/path/5~519~519-details/include/~applications~catalog~serie.jsp/index.sdo"target="_blank">differential pressure bypass valve</a> is the way to eliminate this possibility, particularly with higher flow rates.

    Banging Noises from Zone Valves

    Hi,

We have received solutions from the wall on this particular subject. The scenario is: circulator is on the return on almost all residential hot water boilers and the zone valves are usually on the supply. Due to the water velocity on the zone valve when closing you may get a banging sound. Solution: you may remove one spring from the Honeywell zone or move the zone valves to the return. i read the excellent book "Pumping Away." Page 50 shows the zone valve on the supply side of the pump. Humble question...Why wouldn't the zone valve create a banging sound when closing since it is so close to the discharge of the pump?

    Thank You
