Insulating a steam boiler

A BTU being the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of water 1 degree, it would make sense to keep as much heat in the system as possible. I believe all the piping in a system should be insulated, but it is quite common to see only above the water line insulated. All commercial or spec'd jobs I see are fully insulated. Go with what you can afford, but all is better.

Insulating a Hartford Loop
Hi Dave,
The system is a one-pipe steam system - any advatages or disadvantages to insulating the Hartford Loop?
Thanks,

That's right, when it gets freezing cold outside, wear a thick jacket for warmth... but who needs pants?
I totally agree with Al, go with what you can afford, but all is better.
