Flooded boiler
Just came back from a service call. Burnahm P 205 installed 4" deep into a pit.
Cellar flooded due to sump pump switch failure 11" of water in cellar and 15" in pit.
Gas valve was definitely under water and the insulation got wet around the combustion chamber.
The board, transformer and relays did not appear to be under water but it is unknown what there condition was.
Would you replace all or most of the controls or change the boiler.

Yes everything that was under water should be replaced.
As far as electrical devises, what about gas logs and insulation inside the fire chamber. Will the logs start to rust. Will the insulation start to deteriorate.
What about other controls not submerged but attached by wiring to the gas valve, could damage have been done to the board by water shorting the gas valve.
Were does my liability end, how far should I go.

I am trying to find the documentation, but GAMA recommends replacing any appliance that was flooded.
AFA gas logs, I would replace the whole thing.
If I can find the GAMA doc, I will post it.

I am a bit on the retentive side if you can tell from my concerns above. And would prefer to just condemn the boiler and put a new one in that is at least not in a 4" pit with a gas water heater destine for this to happen again.
More info.
Flood was caused by a stuck sump pump switch and rain water coming in from a pipe leading out to a catch basin.
Home owner has lost washer drier, spare fridge, water heater and some other belongings in a partially finished cellar.
I am the H.O's plumber but they also have a Nstar contract.
H.O.'s Insurance only will give them $2,500.00 max for all.
Do I try to repair as Nstar will or doe I state I will only pull it and install a new unit on blocks.
GAMA saying appliance do they mean part of the appliance or the whole boiler???

Burnham said on phone and by letter
all electronics should be changed.
all insulation inside the box and outside should be change
gas train should be pulled an cleaned.
a full boiler start up as per U.S. Boiler co instructions should be followed
Utility showed swapped the smart valve, lit the fire and walked out the door.
