One pipe steam system

In our old (100 yr plus) building we have a thermostat on the first floor controlling the boiler in the basement. The boiler supplies steam to single pipe radiators on the three floors above. Would anyone please suggest a suitable programmable thermostat to replace the present round type?
Also, the system needs balancing by a steam pro. In an effort to balance the system, my plumber replaced a programmable microelectronic thermostat and changed air vents on radiators. It did not work. How do I find a steam pro? Location is Hoboken, NJ.
