Dangerous vent

The foil that is. The scariest one I ever saw was about the same situation but they had used what looked like an expanding foam to seal the void.

Dangerous vent
Is this an OK way to tie a water heater flue into the venting system?0 -
Whoever installed that
must have been on crack. Installing a reducer isn't exactly rocket science.....

a joke?
this is a joke, right?0 -
Not rocket science?
Are you saying, Frank, that the installer was no Werner von Braun?
Thought so..
Add to that the open seam looking upstream where top-flowing flue gasses will surely leak out (presuming the view is upstream of course).0 -
That's what happens
when you run out of duct tape.0 -
Its a second draft hood:-)
I'm sure its no joke, you should see some of the things my uncle has done(like galvanized reducer so he could re-use the t&p vlave from the old water ehater instead of installing a new one that was 3/4" and not corroded shut instead of 1/2").. I guess a trip to the hardware store is too hard for some people.0 -
Maybe...
some caulk. Yea, caulk coulda' worked! ;^)0 -
or use...
Reynolds Aluminum foil....kpc

I think it's swell!
Don't y'all recognize it? It's a W. Va. draft regulator!0 -
How About
The flex aluminum dryer vent used as vent for water heater; just open the attic access hatch and pinch it in there so it can't fall back down. This is in a closet in a sleeping room. Or you can break a hole in a 4" cast iron vent stack, run about 30 feet of 3" water heater vent connector flat horizontal and shove it in there and caulk it with painters caulk. Both of these were in the same house. And the occupants were STILL ALIVE.0 -
