Friday Funny/Xmas Fruitcake...

I remember reading that the mass of the earth has always remained the same, regardless of whatever has gotten mined out of it.

Where is fruitcake mined? Does is come from deep in the earth or is it found close to the surface?

Thought I'd start early this year....

So last year, we got 2 fruitcakes for Christmas. One we used as a boat anchor and one I threw up in the attic on December 26.

Hauled the first one out of the bay today; a little salty, but the lobsters had not even nibbled at it!

Climbed up into the attic about an hour ago, and lugged that one down the ricketty stairway (tough job, as it was a three pounder!). Caught my breath, rested my arms and opened it up on the kitchen counter; just as fresh as it was when I dragged it up there last winter, and untouched by the squirrels!

I personally don't like the stuff, but what am I missing about fruitcake? They seem to be popular. Is it an acquired taste? Can they support intelligent life? Inquiring (and facetious) minds would like to know. Happy Holidays to all!!!

    just like gold...

They say that all the gold ever refined still exists. It may be in Fort Knox, orbiting in space, at the bottom of the ocean, or on your wife's finger, but it still exists. The same applies to fruitcake. It is never eaten, just passed on to someone else every year. It's also a scientific fact, that if the world was nuked or hit by an asteroid, that rats, roaches and fruitcake would be all that survived. Maybe we can call "Mythbusters" and they can figure it out! Also, "Fruitcakes" is the title of a really funny Jimmy Buffett song!

My mother in-law and her friend have been passing the same fruitcake back and forth for about 20 years now. It turns up in the strangest places. Hidden in a cooler on the boat, under a bed, occasionally as a gift. The year her friend moved to Georgia, my mother in-law hid it in the moving van. 6 months later the friend called crying. She had just found it and it was the first time she'd smiled since she'd been there.

The cake, or whatever it is, is now black, smelly, and the tin is actually rusting through in spots. But what a great tradition.

    I think.....

It's made from the "leftovers" from Figgy Pudding.(at least 3X nastier!)

Bill, Happy Christmas to you and yours...and I agree...Jimmy's song was very good. "Fruitcakes in the oven, fruitcakes on the bus....there's a little bit of friutcake , in everyone of us!"

P.S. My mom named her cat fruitcake!) Chris

    Actually

there has never been more than ONE fruitcake. It's just been passed around the world fifteen million times.

Murph sent it to me a few years ago and I sent it to some hungry kids in Somalia. I heard they sent it to starving children in China. Not sure where it is now, but I hope I never see it again.

    Mark, I found your fruitcake!!!

It is in the lab at Brookhaven. They are testing it for use as a thermal break in radiant slabs; it may now become the standard for in-slab insulation.

As long as I don't have to eat it, I don't care what they do with it.

I just wanted to comfort you, as it appeared that you were experiencing fruitcake separation anxiety disorder, commonly called: FSAD. All is well. Jack

    and the fruitcake wall tradition

    continues.!

I saw on one of those edyoumacational channels one time, that the original Hadrians wall that the Romans erected to stop the crazy Scottish hordes was made of fruit cake. Thinking that they, the Romans, had found the perfect building material, impoosible to tear down, didn't realize just how crazy those Scots were! Yummy!
