Primary Secondary Tee Connections

How critical is the connection of the primary secondary pump hot water piping at the tees. I understand that the two tees need to be as close as possible. My question is the connections to the tees. I was with the understanding that you need to connect the piping to each pump circuit at the branch connections of the tee for the system to eliminate the pressure drop between the primary and secondary circuits. Is this true or could you connect to one end of the run of the tees for your secondary circuit and then the primary pump would be flowing thru the run and branch connection. I saw a job done this way and just wanted to clairfy.
