Did the manufacturer ever make a public statement about the problem?
  • Thoughts that have crossed my mind since this came to light...

Copper tube is carried on top of pickup trucks in steel racks. When the tube is pulled off the rack, it can scour a nice deep scratch into the tube, that I don't think the O ring could fill...

I was leaning against a boiler the other day, doing the OOoohhh AAHHHhhh test on the gozinta and gozouta pipes, when I felt something funny on the surface of the copper pipes serving this partuclar carbon monoxide genrator. Closer examination found that the tube company (Mueller) had a hard plastic label attached to the pipe which had their company logo and the weight of cooper tubing on it.
I don't beleive that the O rings on PP would fill that gap either...

I think that if a company is going to use the PP method that the care of the pipe is CRITICAL, and the choice of manufacturer is just as critical. No manufacturer can cover EVERY contingency in the developemnt of their product. Can they??

Would however still like to hear PP's determination on that particular situation. In their defense, I've been back to every job we did with glycol and PP and have seen NO issues, other than threaded pipe joint leaks which are a given. And I suspect that this holds true for other contractors that use their product, or we would have heard about it here on The Wall.
