Main vent question for steamhead

I've never seen one go bad that quickly, unless it was mis-applied. But I know in your case, it was the right part for the job.

    Main vent question for steamhead

What is the failure rate for main vents? In particular a Hoffman 4A which happens to be the slowest vent on the shortest and smallest main in my system. This vent is 2 1/2 years old and today decided to not close any more and vent steam. Even after removal and cleaning it still wanted to misbehave. Since I had a spare (because things like this only fail in the middle of the night, during blizzards, and on holidays) I replaced it. But I'm curious as to how often these fail.

    vent

Thanks. It was sized using the vent chart from here and is appropriate for it's location. I'm thinking it was defective out of the box since it failed so soon. Happy Holidays
