Wrong Vitodens

I'm really curious why Viessmann is preparing to introduce the Vitodens 100 and you never hear anything about the 300 series. The 300 and the others in that series are the ultimate in tech, they have modulation down to just over 4kw instead of 6, have more headroom for doing DHW than heating, has telecommunications equipment available etc.

Instead, from what I've heard, the Vitodens 100 will have a cheaper burner, won't have the variable speed pump and lack outdoor reset as well. I would love to see their 343s hit the market here instead.

    The fact

The fact that they have chosen to introduce a less expensive Vito should tell you where the V boys think the American market is at. It's lower price stuff, not higher, that is generating the numbers and the typical American consumer is not interested in what makes the 200 and 300 so great. They just want cheap and 95% from boiler A is the same as 95% from boiler B. In the mind of most, there's nothing else to consider.

    Still... Curious Marketing

Viessmann has the top name in the U.S. industry - what do they gain except for adding a little market share (most likely at much lower margins) when this is such a small piece of their global operation? Maybe they are setting themselves up for the solar wave? I'm sure that once the technology gets economical to buy for the masses and has tolerance for poor installers, the solar industry will skyrocket. I wonder if they know something and really want to spread the name and willingness to buy into them product-wise?
  • Name Recognition

Its all about name recognition, nothing to do with not wanting to bring in the MORE expensive stuff.

Up until last year if you bid a Viessmann Oil and the HO wanted a competitive brand you gave them a Burnham or a Peerless or a Weil McLain. Notice NO VIESSMAN. Now they introduce the Vitorond 100 entry level CI OIL boiler and PRESTO ALL OIL ALES GO UP. Why, now good better and best are ALL VIESSMANN.

When competing in the Ultra Munchkin world, it's great to have a boiler that is 3 times the machine, but the competition works.... and most American Heating Contractors are not specialists at being salesmen. So with the Vitodens 100 you can compete at the Munchkin level and say.. and look at this little baby!!!

I am sure the condensing oil and 300 series gas boilers are not far away... just first they have to gain the market share.

    Make sense???

You said a mouthful there Wheels

"....and most American Heating Contractors are not specialists at being salesmen."

They have to learn how to sell something besides the lowest price and how to differentiate themselves from those whose only "weapon" IS that low price.

    Don't hold your breath....

I wouldn't count on that happening. The N American training scenario for techs rarely includes sales training. The Europeans have a required Guild for intensive tech training and sales is a part of the process. Not here.

At least the Vito 100 will have the stainless HX, but no controls or modulating smart internal pump. I know I'll never sell one. I'd be very surprised to see one installed in the Seattle market.

    lock and load

well i for one welcome the less exspensive model as long as it at least modulates. We used to sell on oil Viessmann and Peerless ocasional Burnham, (sorry Glenn). With the introduction of the oil 100 We are now 100% Viesssmann save steamers , where i'm interested in the new MPO (hope for Glenn).

I present this as Mercedes or BMW You've got your C,E,S class or your 3,5,7 series. We primarilly sell the upper end versions but it's nice to have something to fall back on.

There is a huge gap in the lineup between the vitogas 50 and Vitodens. I don't think the Vitogas 100 fits well in the middle as in most chimneys here it needs a liner so that pushes the price to Vitodens territory. esp since we can get a 800$ utility rebate on vitodens.

    Vitodens 300

FWIW, the current 11/44 and 15/60 have the 300 heat exchanger.
