Flexible gas pipe

I'm helping a friend install a gas fired, ceiling hung

heater in his garage.

A contractor friend got him the necessary flexible gas

pipe to connect the heater to the existing gas line.

In the process of making the connection, I noticed that

the end of the pipe was just pressed against the inside of

the connectors that came with the pipe. This does not appear

to be very gas tight.

Are we missing a gasket of some kind?

    Rollie,...

Sounding as helpful as I can, even as plumbers we need an additional certification to install flexible SS tubing. I can only hope that you avail yourself of a properly licensed, insured, professional plumber or fitter that has the necessary experience and qualifications. I have no intention of answering your question due to the multiple liability issues and the fact that I can not directly supervise your work. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I hope you understand.

Here here!!! The 'friend' who is a plumber did no one a favor by purchasing you this csst. I too went through the class and tested to be licensed to even purchase this stuff. You and your house could end up on the moon....this is your family's safety here...don't mess with it.

    Flexible gas lines?

Rollie, does this flexible gas line have the "connections"as part of the flex "right out of the package"? or is it the type that you cut to length AND then you make your own "flare" connection using the "factory certified" tubing cutter and flare block?

    Hi Techman:

This is a coil of CSST that came with the connectors

    attached.

I am very safety conscious, which is why I asked the

question of such knowledgeable people. Considering the

other replies received, I'll hire a plumber to make the

connections once my friend has the heater hung in the garage

and the pipe run to it.

Wise choice! The threads on gas pipe are different from the threads of "flare" connectors.Maybe thats why your putting the fitting together didn't seem right? Happy Holidays!
