In the last section at http://www.heatinghelp.com/steam_waterlineisbouncing.cfm, Dan Hollohan explains a Dead Man's trick called the surge column. I can't understand from his description what they look like and how they are hooked up. Can anyone provide a photo of one?

Surge Column
Here's one that the Contractor had the right general idea, but kinda blew the details. Should have: eccentric reducers flat down at the bottom and flat up at the top, to prevent crud accumulation and facilitate draining/flushing/blow off; swing check instead of a real vacuum breaker; jury rigged support, and other stuff. Original designer really had no clue, took over a year to fix everything.0
