automatic flue dampers

but they would be a special-order item, probably from Effikal or Field. I had to replace a 10-inch one last year and it took a week or two to get.

That does sound like a pretty big boiler for a house- I'd be interested to see if it's oversized.

    automatic flue dampers

Our home's 57.5 HP gas/steam boiler's 12" round metal flue exhausts into a chimney and then travels 65' to the sky. Would it be cost-effective to install an automatic flue damper on the boiler round metal flue? I have no idea what this would cost.

    I have never

heard of a flue damper that large. You have a commercial boiler and as far as I know, dampers are not available.

    Is your last name "Gates"?

    Effikal

I know that Effikal does make a 12" Auto Vent Damper. I would only use it with an atmospheric appliance. Make sure to have it professionally installed and locked into the safeties.

Are you sure on the 57.5 HP - Residential? Do you measure your home in square feet or acres?

I replied to your e-mail but it kept bouncing back, so I figured I would post a reply here.

Cost effectiveness would be hard to determine. When boiler manufacturers started including them to meet residential government standards, AFUE figures went from may 70-75% efficiency to 80-82%. I would think your fuel savings may be along the same line.

57.5 HP at 33,472 BTU/HP equals 1,924,640 BTU/HR. Our lines of boilers would take a power burner to put that much fire through a 12" flue, an atmospheric boiler would have at least (4) 12" flues. What is the brand/model of your boiler, my gut feel is that it can't be 57 HP but who knows.

Let me know if I can be of any other assistance,

    Good luck,
