Resistors used with buderus EM10

Hello all, I've got a job where I need 500 ohm resistors to enable communication between a tekmar 265 control and a buderus EM 10 interface. Due to the fact that NOWHERE I go has 500 ohm resistors, can I safley assume I can use 5 100 ohm resistors in series to have the same effect?

pull down resistor?
a 470 ohm might be close enough, better than five 100's, i would use two 1,000 ohm in parallel.0 -
You got that right jp!
Standard tolerance for resistors is plus-minus 10% and such is good enough for most applications.
Two 1,000 ohm in parallel would have a better chance of "close to" 500 ohm than 5 x 100 ohm in series.
I would though try the standard 470 ohm.
jp: Do you know why 470 and 4,700 are such common values for resistors?0
