This site is amazing...
Not to pollute the Wall with a somewhat off-topic comment, but I'd just like to thank the members of this community for making this site awesome. I've been lurking for the past four months, preparing to replace an old boiler (an American Radiator cast-iron behemoth from the late 40's). Last week we put in a Weil McLain Ultra and a Superstore, and split the house into four zones (from one). So far it's been great- house gets more consistently warm, much faster, and I can't hear the gas meter spinning.
Although I only rarely posted questions, I learned a boatload from the questions and answers that others posted - from the various issues that people had with boiler a vs. b vs. c, to the benefits of designing a system instead of just replacing a boiler, even just from looking at "code violation" pictures or Clammy's Munchkin installs to see the difference between a good job and a bad one. This has got to be one of the most helpful and informative sites I've found for any subject - the willingness of the contributors to give honest answers and advice is awesome.
I'm obviously not a heating professional, but I ended up working with one to install the system (I couldn't afford to pay someone else to do the entire job, but I also couldn't afford to do it not right...) When we started, he wanted to install the same boiler he's installed at every other house he's worked on; the fact that I was able to give him legitimate reasons why I wanted to go with a Mod-Con boiler and could demonstrate that I wasn't just a tree-hugger but that I had actually done enough research to know (somewhat) what I was talking about helped convince him to work with me, and in the end he was as proud as I was of the completed install.
Thanks again for all of your help (direct and indirect). I've already pointed a couple of "lurkers" this way, hopefully some of them will become customers of the pros who make this site great.

That's what it's all about
Speaking for the collective brain trust, of which I consider myself a minor league member, we're glad we could be of service. Here's hoping that your fuel bill is cut in half by your excellent choice. Keep an eye on the PH in that aluminum HX and it should last a long time. ENJOY!0 -
