Boiler replacement

I have a Crown CT35 oil fired boiler in my house with Radiant heat in the slab down stairs thats 1500 sq. ft. For now the up stairs (also 1500 sq. ft.) is heated with a heat exchanger in the air handler for the AC.

We are starting to finish the downstairs and the boiler is way too noisey for my liking. The main problem I have found out is it is installed with a power vent and what I really need is a direct vent unit.

As far as oil fired boilers what are the quietest units available? I have a friend that has a Peerless and its pretty quiet, but want suggestions so I can do some shopping...Thanks!

I have tried a few of the Burnham MPODV's they are extremely quiet and super efficient, I'm not a huge fan of Direct Vent boiler but the MPO's are nice.

Buderus direct vent with a Riello

Buderus is the only oil fired boiler we install. It is far superior to anything else currently in the US. We opt for Riello burners.

    The company I work for

The company I work for installs a lot of Buderus boilers both chimney and direct vent. The chimney ones aren't bad, the direct vents are a source of problems in very cold weather. We have a customer with a plane jane utica or dunkirk I forgot which that is pretty much bullet proof. I didn't even know they made a DV unit.

    Buderus

I used to use the Buderus 115's for direct vent but found they were limited in size for a few projects I was doing and they weren't the Thermostream design like the 215's which I like. I got the best of both worlds with the MPO's, they go bigger in size and have the built in temperature protection. I also like the Riello's but the Beckett NX's sure seem to work fine and are a big improvement over the AFII's. Nothing aqainst Buderus But I like the fact the the U.S. Manufacturer's seem to have stepped up to the plate

    That is odd

That is odd, lots of installs with the Crown CT and no noise complaints. What is the burner on your system ? You can have your CT upgraded to a DV boiler. Check with a local Crown installer. The DV version (ODV) of the CT is extrememly quiet.

Hi thanks for the replys! Its a Becket AFG burner. I contacted Crown about it when it was first installed and they told me it was not intended for use with a power vent. I think alot of the problem is that the flue exits the boiler at 7 inch and then is necked down to 4 inch at the power vent. all in all I think its a very reliable and well built boiler, but me and the mrs. are just tired of getting woke up at night when it fires.....

Do you know off hand what all needs changed to convert to a ODV?

That sounds like alot more cost effective to me then total replacement.

is the burner and flue pipe and aquastat controls.
Check the crownboiler website for the install manual for the ODV. Carlin and Riello balaced flue burners are spec'd. Also the flue pipe has to be air tight with an extra high temp saftey is installed.
