I would like to see it separate and maybe off main frame as to not give away Employers or employee's, just in case the 2 are both looking??? get it? I think it would ad another level to an already classy web sight hub to everyone interested. :-)

Would you like to see
a place on HeatingHelp where employers could advertise for help, and people could advertise their availability. This would be free.
Pros and cons, please?Retired and loving it.0 -
So long as it is not
another room on the Wall (to keep the scrolling and clutter to a minimum), I have no objection. Maybe keep the entries to a standard form of information to keep bandwidth down or to focus the viewers on the key points of the product or position.
Maybe take a cut for successful match-ups? Sort of a Dan's List?
People can say, "I got my job on d-Bay!"0 -
YES
I know I would, I would suggest a guide of sorts to help those not familiar with job search and a guide to being tactful and possibly a go between, because some may fear their bosses are looking at the site to see if they are thinking of leaving.
I think all should always look to better themselves and improve their position and pay, it's the American way,no?
Good Luck0 -

Great idea...0 -
Well, I'm new to this site as of this week (and I love it; you have no idea (or maybe you do!)how wonderfully usefull it is for someone in a very remote area to be able to access professional help).
I would use an opportunity right away. I'd like to solicit a pro to at least design or consult on a gravity radiant heat system.
I think if you did something like this I think it would be good to use a feedback forum, simular to the one they use on ebay. A customer can recommend a contractor, a contractor can recommend customer (!!!!!): did the check bounce?, did they LISTEN would you have them back or work for them again, did they order a lot of changes and complain about the price difference? The feedback forum is self policing and tends to keep both client and contractor more responsible. This would also apply to employer, employee relations. Hmmmm, maybe you'd be opening a can of worms, but you could always close the can or throw it away if it became a problem. It does seem to work well on ebay...
I'm new here, and you've probably answered this, but I'd be interested in a classified section, buying and selling plumbing stuff. Or do you have one and I haven't found it? Is it ok or not to use the Wall for that?
Thank you for this website,
Stew0 -
Ditto
!
Being the capialist I am, me thinks "free" may be a tad open-ended?
Perhaps some fee for actual connections successfully made - could be linked to the service?
Any employer who finds the right guy would or should be willing to cough up a few bucks for the link-up. ****, a head hunter typically gets one month's pay, minimally 10% of a year's wages.
Free is nice. But as you remind me when off on a tear, "It's a business site." "Please treat is as such."0 -
This would be
a separate section, off the navigation bar.Retired and loving it.0 -
There would be
an advertiser's banner at the top of the page, as there is on most pages here. That would support it.Retired and loving it.0 -
Thanks, Stew.

Thanks, Stew.
We have a Find a Professional section, with advertisers who help make the place possible. And if anyone is unhappy with those services they're welcome to post here. Few have complained over the years because the Find a Pro advertisers are just that. Been a lot of praise for most of them, and also here on the Wall.
Welcome!Retired and loving it.0 -

No harm in it....
I know we got severely chastised by employers for having a job board at the school. Seems to me, if a company is taking care of their employees, the employees not looking for a new job...
Go for it.
ME0 -
Good idea Dan
It might even warrant some ink in our rags. :-)0 -
I say go for it!
Maybe I could find that "dream" job i've been searching for and get back into the trade full time again!0 -
YES
I'm with Ted.0 -
ABSOLUTLY!!! iT Would no doubt be a good tool for those of us who are picky about our help! The greatest place for heating help would no doubt be the greatest place for heating help!0 -
Dan, I think that is a great idea. Sounds like a win-win situation that could benefit a lot of people.0 -
Successful Job search Here!
Dan,
Having landed a position with a company that advertised the job opening on this site, I have to emphatically endorse this idea.
The industry needs more places to recruit qualified people into the trade. This site is one of those places. Allowing employers to post positions that require specific skill sets, on a website that is frequented by individuals with those skill sets can only benefit all of us.

Sure!
I'd rather find quality help or be found out as quality help here, before any other place I can think of. Good idea!

I AGREE!
And good press for the trades too! It will probably demonstrate to people "Peaking In" how a person with a good work ethic can excel in this trade and how badly they are in need.
Anything we can do to make getting into the trades more desireable will help us all.

Hide and Seek...
I think it's a great idea, especially since it would be banner supported, but it might also be a nice to suggest a successful match would be grounds for a "Brick in the Wall" donation. Every shekel helps.
Also, there should be away for someone seeking employment to have their identity hidden, as people seeking often don't want their present employer to know. Maybe a way to link a serialized number to the email address. The perspective employer could click on the serialized number, which would bring up a very simple form for the employer to express interest and give their contact info. That form would then be emailed to the hidden email address. It would then be up to the seeker to contact the seekee.
Hey, maybe I'll finally be able to get a job in this industry!

MONSTERWALL!
I believe this would be a fantastic idea. I agree that Alex (stonehouse) made allot of sense in that privacy would/should be a key componet. Other posters too had some good ideas as well. Kinda like a WALLMONSTER.

Dan - What has happend to your idea? Sounded like a good one to me.0 -
Invision
is putting together some pricing for me, and then I'll see if it makes sense financially. Thanks.Retired and loving it.0 -
good idea
sounds like a good idea. maybe put up an address seperate from this where they could go to, or link it from this site.0 -
Sounds like a winner
Makes sense to take advantage of the vast network that exists here.

We've decided
to go ahead with this project. Invision is building it for you now. Thanks.Retired and loving it.0 -
Be careful about customers recommending contractors. that could get messy. that opens the doors for sabatage and just a whole lot of bad stuff. example: one contractor does a great job, but for some reason the boiler guy screws up and then the homeowner who got the radiant guys info off the wall comes on and bad mouths him and puts a dent in his rep. another example: my name is mary hollinster and i just hired john doe and he did a fantastic job on everything, he was respectful and so on (have you caught on yet, yeah its me writing a good response on ME haha)
great idea for finding help but i would def keep the communicating to a minimum. just my opinion0 -
Hijacked again (I feel like JR)
I do think it's a good idea, but did not post previous YES.
Rick0 -
That's not what it is.
It's a place were employers can advertise for employees.Retired and loving it.0 -
oops read it wrong. i thought it was somewhere where homeowners that needed help could post and also employers could advertise job openings.

Dan, I can hear
People typing up resumes already. Dan, will Manufacturers post for reps & sales people? GREAT IDEA...
Rick
*and you thought your job was bad*0 -
Here's a description of the functions, as described by Invision:
A potential employee will go the website and click on the links for jobs. He will be taken to the jobs listings page. Then he will either scroll through all the jobs or search for the job to find the one that fits his needs. Once found, he will click on the link to see the details. That will take him to the Job Details page. On every page 50 jobs will be displayed.
An employer will login with a user name and password and will be taken to add a job page. On that page, an employer will fill in all the information and click submit. Once the form is submitted, it cannot be changed or deleted. Once it is submitted, it will be displayed on the website.
Every job will have an end date. That end date will be the last date that job will appear on the website.
If an employer forgets his password then it will be emailed to him. This can be done on the forgot password page.
If the employer doesn't have an account then he can easily create an account on the create a new employer account page.

Posting Job Openings
Hey Dan - please let me know when running and how to get a username and password. I am in the market to hire training assistant(s).
This is a great idea!0 -
Should be up within a couple of weeks, Steve.
And I think it will be very intuitive. Thanks.Retired and loving it.0 -
Plumbing Wholesalers
YES I would think this could work for wholesalers as well. I seen people go cross over in both directions. I think this could serve both sides of the industry.
Anonomous resume' postings too ?0
