Not sure how long the main is. I'll have to check once I get home.

But I do know its a 2" pipe as I recently insulated it with 2" fiberglass tubings.

    Gorton #2 or #1

    Hi.

I have a question in regards to main venting.

Currently, my long main running to the cold side of the house has a Gorton #1 on it. It hisses after the pipe and radiators are hot.

Should I get the Gorton #2? If so, woul dit fit? The gorton #1 is 3/4" x 1/2" (as seen here: http://www.pexsupply.com/categories.asp?cID=302&brandid= )

But the Gorton #2 has no dimension specified by PexSupply. I want to make sure it fits into the nipple.

Want to make sure before I order, as they cost about $50 each and don't want it to be wasted because they don't fit.

    Thanks.

    also..

I forgot another question I have in mind:

I can't seem to find the short main. I can easily trace and see the pipes of the long main going from the back of my house to the front and thats where my Gorton #1 is located at.

Is it normal or fine for not having two mains?

    Gorton vents

A Gorton #2 is 1/2" MPT. You could Tee a couple of #1s together and get about the same venting as a single #2. This way you use what you have and pay a little less for what you need.
  • If there's only one main

getting all the steam from the boiler, you need a lot of venting to get the steam to the end of the main before it starts rising to the rads. How long is the main, and what pipe size?

    #1 vs #2 Gorton Vents

Steamhead says that a #2 is the equal of 4 #1s.

    What do I need...

to install a Gorton #2 onto the main besides drilling? Is there an adaptor to fit into the current fitting so the #2 can be installed?
