I assume you would have a "cntract or ageement", just let them know, it can happen and not covered under your install

What do you do
when after a boiler changeout, you get a call from the HO saying the pipes are leaking all over the place, especially in places you did not work on? I am thinking here of leaks that occur downline from the boiler, but being the last one there, you get saddled with" they only started leaking after you installed the new boiler" response. Do you have exclusions in your contracts that account for this happening? If so could you post them? What liability if any is there with this scenario? How near is "near boiler piping" and how far does it extend? Thanks for all the advice

I had a couple small leaks on a replacement, and did consider the possibility that when breaking the old ones free, the joints may have moved. If it was beyond a straight run, I would not be soo quick to make it go away. In my case, I just bit the bullet and made the cust smile. Got 2 referrals as a result!!!

depends
on how you look at the relationship with the homeowner..i try to look at each customer as someone i now have for the rest of my life..others may just want to move on..how do you get your calls? if its mainly word of mouth referrals then go the extra mile..weve all been there..i usually just chaulk it up to ''crap happens''.

Leaks
Could you check for signs of the leaks having been there for awhile?Rust trails?Stains? Then the customer could be shown and then rightly charged for,maybe!0 -

if they are fresh leaks, fix them. if they are old leaks, i would show the customer that they have been leaking and fix them. a few minutes or a few hours goes a long way for customer relations and referrals. if job is bid right, there should be some fudge time in there for unexpected issues. also before you touch the next job, look for signs of leaks and advise HO of extra costs, no issues after that.
good luck with all you do0 -
hot water heater
how do i drain one hot water radiator to be removed0 -
Joseph: Looks like you're in the wrong thread, but you cannot drain a single radiator in a hot water system. You have to drain the entire system to at least a level BELOW the bottom of the rad you're removing.
If you need the system to run before you reinstall the rad you have to cap off the connections and re-fill.0 -
leaks
yes,we did, but as you know with these old pipes, they don't give notice of when and where they leak. Fortunately we had only one leak that was easily repairable, but what happens if there is a number of leaks, as the more you work on these old pipes the connections are liable to leak. I guess my question was the "what if" type, how do you handle that scenario. Bearing in mind not all Ho's are amenable when a issue of this nature arises. Say you are on a big boiler changeout and leaks appear after yopu have left, what do you do?0
