Removing radiators from second story

If there are small rods going from side-to-side at top and bottom of the radiators, remove them. The radiators can then be disassembled by using wedges made from a hard wood. Lay the radiator on its' side and put the wedges between sections and strike with a sledgehammer.
If no such small rods, the radiators cannot be disassembled by any practical method. If too large and heavy to remove intact, breaking them up with a sledgehammer will probably be much easier than trying to cut them apart.

demolition and removal of cast iron radiators
We are trying to remove 4 very heavy cast-iron radiators from the second story of an older home. We would like to salvage what we can but still be able to carry them out ourselves. Does anyone know the best way to take old radiators apart into sections and remove them? i.e. if you need to cut them apart what tool do you use, any tricks of the trade that someone may know about. Thank you for your help.0 -
Before destroying please give consideration to a "free for the taking" ad in the newspaper and/or the web. Unless insanely large they can be moved downstairs. If you're extremely concerned, insist that an insured moving company removes them.0
