Aquastat Bad?

About 3 weeks ago, my oil boiler was acting funky, so I called for service. They came by and said it was "plugged up". (It hadn't been cleaned in 2.5 years. I know, I know). So they did a quick "get you going again fix", but said "get it cleaned".

So I got it cleaned yesterday, and they left me this note: "Found aquastat relay is bad. Not sending power to circulator and was turned way to high. Have system working now, but should replace aquastat."

First, they turned it all the way to high after the "get you going" fix to test it, and I'm sure they just forgot to turn it back down. But my aquastat relay is bad?? I have heat in all 3 zones, plus the hotwater. (My system is piped as a gravity feed, so I suppose that once a valve opens for heat, the cold water would fall down, and the hot water might rise of its own power, albeit slowly).

I am just starting to feel like they are taking me for a ride...I plan to check the voltage across the circulator and see if it is running, but what do you all think? The whole system is just 2.5 years old. Beckett burner with Thomas boiler.

Thanks.

the relay may be working now. but it could be on the brink of failure.

yup, nothing like waiting until the contacts completly fail before replacing. Especially since this usually happens on a long weekend, cold spell, middle of night, with guests over.

I hate my mother in law too :)
