Fuel oil mixtures

... I've seen a lot of exterior oil tanks on the islands in Maine, where it gets pretty darn cold in the winter. Naturally, -10 is still balmy compared to the conditions that Weezbo and his merry band of heating contractors endure in Alaska, but we all have our relative scale, don't we?

If the tank is not external, perhaps the basement gets too cold to allow the boiler to run well in the winter. Using a mix would help address the symptom, though a better solution is to address the problem (i.e. insulate, then heat the portions of the basement that need it).

    Fuel oil mixtures

A friend has recently purchased a home with an oil fired boiler. The previous owner recommended a 50-50 mixture of #1 & #2 fuel oil. This seems a bit rich to me, but I work on very few oil fired boilers. Anyone out there have some guidence in this regard? Keith

    mixture

Is this an outside tank? possibly to keep the fuel from gelling.

Most all residential power oil burners will burn either #1 or #2 oil so any mixture of the two is ok, as long as it has been set up by a professional with a combustion analyzer
