I've installed two Knights and love them. I've installed the Peerless and like them too. The Knight is pretty competitive to the Peerless when you figure the standard features it comes with. Perhaps least of all, (but definitely a factor) is the Knights styling. A gorgeous piece of art for your mechanical room! I can't speak to your comparative bids, but you will never regret investing in radiant heating. It will pay you back in many ways. I think you would really like the Knight. Choose a contractor you like and trust, and buy the best efficiency you can afford. (you can't afford not to) I've no experience with Buderus, but the reputation speaks for itself. I would venture to say anyone who scoffs at it is on dangerous ground.

Lochinvar
I did a search of this site on the Lochinvar Knight boiler and two threads before had no responses. Any idea why? Is this not a popular choice or too new or expensive.
My fourth bidder who came in and told me he will only do top of the line installations (he was a little arrogant) or he won't do the project, has proposed this boiler. He said he only installs Pinnacle Boilers on his 'lower end' installations, and scoffed at the contractor who proposed Buderus.
However, as cocky as the guy is he knows his overall system integration (I know just enought to get myself in trouble), so I'd like to do a little checking on his choice. Also, the price for the Knight is pretty stiff.0 -
the best
Why not the viessman. Alot of people think it is the rolls royce of boilers. I just think, get a boiler that is reliable, serviceable and last but not least, efficient. I like boilers that are readily repairable, because I gaurantee you there will be service calls, also cast Iron if you are not going condensing. Good luck with the shopping, Tim.0 -
Knight is good choice
Sorry that you have not had a lot of response, but the Knight is a great choice. It is made by a super company that is the premier manufacturer of hot water boilers in the U.S. They are going to around to handle the occasional problem.
Also, the Kight is made at their main plant just outside of Nashville, TN. Why not stick with an American made product (yes, some foreign content but all boilers have some foreign content).
Good luck on you project.0 -
I have a good Knight
installed in my home. 3 others in the field. They are new to the market which is why you won't get a lot of input yet.
My fuel bill has dropped quite a bit over the older cast iron boiler it replaced. I'll have actual data on my next LP tank refill.
The standard on board control has the most features of any I have installed. It comes with the boiler circ, and a Grundfos 15-58 will handled all the way up to their 210,000. No high head circs needed.
There are plenty of good boiler choices out there. The installers knowledge is key. There is a bit more programing required compared to basic cast or copper boilers, to get best results.
