Any way to get a 1-1/2" TRV?
I know I could change the pipe instead, but that would be very difficult in this case.

Tunstall Associates
has a kit that will turn an angle valve into a TRV, that is, assuming you have an angle valve of that size. Otherwise I do not know of a 1.5 inch TRV, personally.0 -
Yes, looking for Tunstall led me to Macon Associates and they make these conversion kits:
