I am trouble shooting a strange ignition problem on a 3 yr old independance steam boiler after 20 minute of running the gas valve will shut off for about 5 to 10 seconds then ignition module will restart boiler it has a hw 8610m control, control always has 24 volts in but losses the 24 volts to the gas valve, is it possible the igniter is supposed to carry a millivolt signal back to the control?

Not millivolt but flame rectification, passes from ignitor (pilot tube head) to flame rod via the flame, check all connection and they are famous for bad ground check ground wire or ground connection ie burner/pilot assembly back to chassy very finniky

    Ed, need to check...............

ignition cable and ground wire for continuity. If cable has signs of white coating replace it due to out gasing. Check temp of igniter sensor as high temp can cause short. Check that pilot flame covers flame rod and is steady and blue. If these all check out replace module with a 8610U as the 8610m is obsolete.Ed if this doesn't help give me a call at South Shore in Brockton. John
