Anyone running Firefox?

Never had any problem. It doesn't hijack you system or install lots of spam programs or disable anything.
The best part is that Internet Explorer remains there to use anytime you want. But you'll never want to use it again.

Anyone running Firefox?
Just set it up, and it seems to load this site a lot faster than IE. Hasn't crashed yet. Any downside to Firefox?0 -
For Years
...been using Foxfire without a problem and without all that Spyware and Adware that Microsoft's IE seems to catch for you.
Once in a very long time I'll have to switch to IE for a particular site, but that's almost never.
You'll love Foxfire. Faster, Smaller program that solves lots of problems.

I use Firefox
and other Mozilla systems.
One issue I have with it is that it does not always open attachments. You have to "save link target as" and download to a file. Simple interface otherwise (Sort of Fisher-Price controls on a Ferrari).
The other issue I have with Mozilla and Firefox is that it occasionally takes it upon itself to replace my settings and delete my bookmarks and make Mozilla.org my homepage. Every few weeks for no reason. So I use Norton Go-Back to restore it. I cannot therefore vouch for it's security, but it sure is better than IE, by a long shot.

Anythings better than IE, IMO.
I use Safari, it's a close relative to Firefox. What I like about Firefox in particular is the huge, free library of add-ons that allow you to increase its functionality by blocking ads, etc. Between the security issues and the speed, there is no reason to use IE except for the sites that require IE for some reason (when spoofing the User Agent string doesn't do the trick), or Windows Updates (which seem to rely on Active-X and other security-unconscious technologies to get the job done).0 -
Hi,
you can even stay within FireFox with the IETab plugin when a web site requires IE.
My favourites plugins are FasterFox and MediaPlayerConnectivity.
Have fun!

The best feature of Firefox is the ability to allow cookies only for the session, and then erase them upon exiting. This strongly limits the amount of tracking and snooping cookies on your system which can lead to spam.
The only downside is that Firefox is not capable of loading some Java-enabled content.0 -
I will try the IETab plugin for some problem sites.
Brad, you said "Sort of Fisher-Price controls on a Ferrari". Do you use the tabbed browsing and themes? For a new tab I hit a link with the middle mouse button. To close the tab hit the tab with the middle button. Also, the builtin search toolbar is a nice touch. In all, I like the interface much more than IE.
Hopefully there is an image of the toolbar in this post.
Have never had any homepage resets or bookmark loss. This could be something else in your system - I would google the problem.
I have had much better luck with undesirable gremlins than with IE.

By the way, Thunderbird is also a more secure alternative to outlook.0 -
been thinking about it
What pitfalls do I have to watch out for when switching?

I hope Bill Gates doesn't buy it out
....and ruin it like he has to so many good applications. Unfortunately Microsoft can't seem to actually CREATE anything innovative and efficient, they just wait for others to do the heavy lifting.....then stike like a snake. It never seases to amaze me how many times they can re-introduce Work & Excel. I'll get off my soapbox now.....GO FIREFOX !!0 -
Tabbed Browsing
In a single browser window, you can have multiple Web pages open. I use that a lot and it's better than having multiple browser windows open.

tabs
In my picture above there are 8 firefox tabs in one browser. Behind firefox is an IE window. Besides security, this is my favorite feature.

He can't..
Because nobody owns it. If I recall right it is issued under the GPL (General Public License). You might want to find out about this license, there's lots of good stuff issued under it.0 -
Yep.
Works for us, too. Never heard anything bad about it, been using it for over a year.0 -
I never used IE on this machine
Many people believe that IE is full of security holes and there was an article saying Firefox was more secure. When we decided to buy the computer I am using now, I sent for the free CD's of Firefox and Thunderbird. I think it came to about 5 bucks shipping and handling. I installed the programs and disabled IE and Eudora. I would delete them but I think these programs are enbedded in the Windows operating systems.0 -
I use mozilla firefox and its great. no problems. I also do the tab thing. I only use IE for one site.
