The steam boiler is natural gas fired and has a standing pilot.

Steam boiler will not fire up. I turned down the thermostat (a Dayton Fuel Trimmer, Model 2E501B, installed a long time ago) yesterday from about 72F to 60F for several hours to add some water to the boiler. When I returned the thermostat to 72F, I did not hear the usual click at the boiler when it is about to fire up, even though the temperature at the thermostat had dropped to 67F. The pilot is lit on the boiler.
