Insulating the Mains

This is a 2 part request for help from the pros. From what I've read on the wall insulation is very important to running a more efficient system. First, I have a Broomell 2 pipe system which is mostly insulated with fiberglass wrap which you get from Home Depot. I want to insulate the risers and parts of the main but want to know what is the best type of insulation. Will the Home Deopot stuff do the job or is there something better?

Second, a relative had all the asbestos insulation removed from their mains and never replaced the insulation. The mains are starting to rust on the outside and also their heating the basement. Should the rust be removed and painted over to stop the rusting before putting on the insulation?

Thanks for the help. Brian
