Radiant Heating

Check out FAQ 10A on their site: "When there is little or no crosslinking, the product will be a gas." I guess I've been carrying my Hannaford water home in gaseous polyethylene jugs and didn't know it.

    Radiantec Experience?

I am considering Radiantec for radiant heating in my home. I understand that their system is only as good as how well it is installed. Does anybody have any experience with them? How is the quality of their materials?

    Do a search

On this site using the word "Radiantec." That may answer a question or two.

    Hmmm

    Tran,

Radiantec sells on price alone. We get to see the people who dropped a bunch of money and end up with a system that doesn't work. Since they do not guarantee there systems to heat the house in question based on detailed heat loss calculations, they have absolutely no responsibility to fix anything, even if it is the design that is bad.

So how good a radiant system designer and installer are you? If you are solidly comfortable with heat loss to emitter relationships and installation practices, then it might make sense to buy the parts on line.

IMO, no one should buy a heating system without a design that comes with an absolute commitment to make it work in your house. Period.

There is a thread on the wall right now by Dan Foley showing how bad it can get. Bad design and miserable workmanship created an absolute disaster. Money spend and nothing to show for it. It's a complete replacement job the people are facing.

    A special note

Tran originally called me in to estimate this project. He's concerned about the cost of a multi-zoned system using both wall panel rads and a "staple-up" with transfer plates, Vitodens boiler, Indirect DHWT, and doesn't want to compromise on quality, but has price concerns. I've referred him to this site for additional input, before buying over the internet.

There is a man not far from me that purchased his home about 5 or 6 years ago. It came with one of these systems.
The previous owner swore it worked great....well....

Christmas morning of 2004 his home would not get above 52 degrees.

That system is still in there and he is stuck with it because he can't afford to have it done right.

I get several phone calls each year from folks that installed these systems and were quite upset when they did not work. More upset when they found out that they were on their own and furious when they find out how much the fix is or that no-one will attempt a repair on the system.

Paul Pollets will be there if the system he designs and installs ever encounters trouble. The i-net company won't.

You have one chance to get this right. This is your home and it is your money. Paul is a guarantee. The other option is a gamble.

    Hope this helps.

  • No system radiantec does compares to that kind of set up. not even in the ballpark. that's a perfect system it sounds like.

Personally, I think drawings that have disclaimers that say things like "may need supplemental heat" or "not responsible for system operation" and quotes that state "this is not a design" say it all. Radiantec is a parts warehouse, nothing more.
