I saw this tank at a show and it looked very crude. Kind of like you made it yourself in the garage.

oil tank replacement - plastic or steel
Anyone replace a leaking above ground oil tank with a plastic one? Are they legal in all states? Who makes the best plastic and steel tanks? Are double wall steel square tanks worth it? A friend of mine is replacing his oil tank with a new square double walled tank. Who makes them?0 -

double wall tanks
From what I understand, there are three manufactures of double wall tanks. They are Roth, Dehoust (by Granby) and Schutz. The only one I have actually seen and touched is the Roth tank. The Dehoust tank looks similar to the Roth in pictures that I've seen.
These are light weight units that are easier than the standard 12 gauge steel tanks to handle. Roth and Dehoust have 10 year warranties and the assembly of the piping looks similar. From what I understand, sometimes the Roth tanks have problems with their oil line delivery system that is inside the tank and the solution is to use a regular duplex like you would on a steel tank if you have problems. I know very little about the Schutz tank.
Granby offers a 20 year warranty on one of its 12 gauge steel tanks.

As to which one of the three are better or which kind of tank to get, I need more information myself to form my opinion.

I bought Roth,
... and I never regretted it. Excellent construction, easy to manouvre, easy to install. The only weakness noted here has been the Roth pickup system, which has worked well for me, but left Ron Jr. in the cold. It's easy enough to rigid-pipe a regular pickup whose end cannot collapse like the rubber hose on the Roth pickup or to use the third-party (Danfoss?) pickup that everyone seems to be happy with.
The narrow rectangular shape of the Roth units is ideal for retrofits because the units take up so little floorspace, fit through doors, etc. I don't know if plastic-only tanks meet the codes in your jurisdiction, but I remember rather large ones in several German homes I have visited or lived in.0
