Viessmann Oil Boilers

On Viessmann's web site there are 2 oil boilers listed and I am wondering what the difference is. The efficiency ratings are very close.
Boiler #1: The Vitorond 200 is a genuine triple-pass boiler in sectional gray cast iron design with Eutectoplex heat exchanger surface
Boiler #2: The Vitola 200 is a hot water heating boiler with cast iron/steel biferral heat exchanger surface for modulating boiler water temperatures without low limit.
I can see that they are constructed differently but why do they make two? Which one is better?
Thanks.
Here is a link to the two boilers on their site.

The Vitola ( best )is a great boiler for low temp. applications.
It can handle any return temp.
The vitorond ( better )is also a great boiler, but you gotta watch your return temps. I think Viessmann recommends no lower than 104o.
So, depending on your emmitters, you can choose which one is better for your application.
I have a Vitola in my house w/ copper BB. I run it w/ the KW2 control for outdoor reset. I'm capable of running pretty low water temps and still heat my house to 70o w/ no problems.
Viessmann also makes the Vitorond 100 ( good ). Its a no frills CI, 3 pass boiler w/ beckett NX burner or Riello. Its their
" bottom of the line" boiler but its still better than 1/2 of the others out there.0 -
Different strokes for different folks
The Vitorond is basically a medium to high temp boiler built for traditional baseboard and/or radiator systems. It is compatible with all of Viessmann's proprietary controls. We have a few out in service and they are very trouble free while returning excellent efficiency. (86-87% normally)
The Vitola is unlike any other iron boiler on the market in that it operates at any water temperature. There is no low limit so it is the ideal cast iron boiler for radiant app's. It also has the advantage of being able to use the Viessmann chassis burner. This burner is truly a masterpiece of burner design and is as bulletproof as you can get. It is available in natural, LP or oil configuration which is something to bear in mind with as volatile as energy markets are. There are also some alternative fuel burners coming that will fit up to the Vitola in the near future IIRC. These things, along with the possibility of a "condensing attachment" for the Vitola tipped the scales toward it when I replaced my boiler a couple years ago.0 -
Steve,
Same here. Still waiting on the condensing attachment . Noone seems to have any idea when it will be avaliable in the U.S.0 -
Steve and hvac64,
You MAY see the condensing attachment when the fuel is clean enough to handle it. Right now, it really is still too dirty (high sulfer) and it would clog those exchangers real fast.
My memory is that it is basically a Vitodens heat exchanger attached to the rear of the boiler to extract some more heat from the flue gasses. Our fuel just won't cut it YET!. Chris0 -

Vitola vs Vitorond
The only thing these boilers have in common is that they are Viessmann boilers.
The Vitola was sold in North America for almost 20 years before the Vitorond. I believe the Vitorond 200 was introduced as a lower cost Viessmann oil boiler alternative.
The Vitola has no low limit, as for the Vitorond it does have a low limit.
You can easily convert between fuels on the Vitola.
If you want the best oil boiler and price is not a concern, install the Vitola.

I think
15ppm sulphur goes into effect this year if I'm not mistaken. My Vitola happens to run on natural gas and I'd love to retrofit one of the stainless condensing HX's on the back of that puppy. C'mon Viessmann, get it in a group here for those of us who want to do our part in reducing consumption!!0
