... to have met Norman Lee "Lucky" Luciano of Monroe, CT. Just a couple of "Lucky" stories: Lucky did the plumbing and heating for his son Andrew's new log home in extreme Northern CT (MA starts at the end of Andrew's driveway). The house is 70 miles from Monroe. When I asked Lucky if his son was going to have a maintenance contract with his oil company, he said no, if there was a problem, he'd go there and take care of it. "But it's 70 miles away," I said. "That's what we do," said Lucky. "We take care of each other."
One of Lucky's sons was on a cross-country trip with his girlfriend. On the way home, on a Saturday night, the car broke down, and Lucky got the call. "Where are you?" said Lucky. "Virginia." "I'll be there in six hours." It took a little longer, because Lucky had to stop on the way to go to Mass (how many new friends did he meet at that church?). He arrived with the parts, and had them up and running in a couple of hours. I should also mention that the son proposed marriage during the trip. Said proposal was accepted. Who would turn down a proposal to be part of a family like that?
Pipefitter, plumber, craftsman, giver, hero. On June 26, 2005, the Dead Men welcomed a new Member. In our lives, may we strive to deserve the welcome that he surely received.

What will your legacy be?
Yesterday I learned that a plumber I worked with 24 years ago passed away 2 weeks ago. Lucky went to pipe fitters heaven doing what he truly loved, riding his motorcycle. Apparently he suffered a massive heart attack, the bike drifted to the side of road and that was the end of the line for Lucky.
His name is Lucky Luciano. Lucky and I were only work aqaintences so I don't know much about his personal life. If he led his personal life in the same manor he led his profesional life his family was truly blessed.
Lucky retired from the plumbers union only 3 years ago.
At his funeral I understand that there were many moving stories about how Lucky touched many lives.
One story was told by a young tradesman. This young fellow was in the process of building a home for his family when he lost his job. While he was waiting to be called back to work he decided to continue his home building project as a DIY. He was in the ditch one day forming for his footings when Lucky driving by noticed him struggling, stopped his car, got out and offered to help. The young man said thanks but I have no money to pay you for your time. Lucky asked who said anything about payment? Lucky showed up at this man's house everyday for work, for no pay until it was completed. A perfect stranger no less! What a legacy.
Lucky touched many lives in many way's and will be missed by all who knew him.
God bless Lucky Luciano.
