Help installing !

Hello, I am installing a new MI-05 Peerless boiler. I have a couple of questions. I have an air purger with a air vent mounted on top with the expansion tank mounted on the bottom. Should this be mounted on the supply side or the return side? I only have one zone and the circulator is mounted on the return. The Peerless manual tells you to mount the expansion tank on the supply side. The manufacturer says it can be anywhere in the system and doesn't even have to be close to the boiler? Anyhelp would be apprieciated.

the expansion tank goes on the supply pipe,
and the pump, pumps away, into the system, installed after the expansion tank..may i suggest the following reading material will answer your questions as to why.... http://www.heatinghelp.com/shopcart/product.cfm?category=2-16

I'll second that, Jay
"Pumping Away" will make your system run much better. My own system is set up that way. Get the book Gerry recommended, and if you have any questions after reading it, we'll be here. All Steamed Up, Inc.

Thanks Guys
I'm just a little confused as to why there are so many different ways to install the piping. Peerless wants the circulator on the return and the expansion tank and the cold water fill piped into the supply?

Actually
Peerless shows the circulator on the supply piping after the air eliminator and expansion tank in it's diagrams for the MI . The only diagram with the pump on the return is when connected to a water chiller .
It's kind of a mixed signal though , since they show the boiler with the pump mounted on the return right on the cover sheet of the manual . And from what I remember from my gas days , they come shipped that way .0 -
Confusing
It is confusing it came with the circulator on the return and shows an alternate circulator locaton after the expansion tank. So if I put it on the supply after the expansion tank I should be alright? Also the cold water fill should go in before the expansion tank Right?
Again I appriciate all your knowledge!

Jay, expansion tank goes on the supply side, preferably under the air purger, with the water supply entering the system between the purger and the tank. The reason for this is that is the point of no pressure change. You want the water to come in at this point because water fill valves react to pressure. If you install the fill valve where the system pressure drops,(like on the return), it will add water every time the pump starts, and before you know it you have a leaking relief valve.0 -
Not exactly true
I pipe the fill valve on the return of every job I install . I like to purge the zones with hot boiler water to know when all the air is out . Also , we like to use the boiler block as the point of air elimination , where flow is slowest . Piping the fill at the return does not add water every time the pump starts ( otherwise I'd have a boatload of lawsuits ) . It also becomes a non issue if you use a LWCO and leave the valve closed after fill up .0 -
Preference
So from what I'm gathering here from all the great info you guys are giving me is that basically it seems like it is a matter of personal preference on where some of the items go.0 -
Just the feed valve
is a personal preference . Having the circulators pumping away from the expansion tank is something I believe we all agree on .0
