Water Hammer

We installed a new W.M. 580 steam boiler a couple of weeks ago.
The boiler and wet returns have been cleaned endlessly. We had a problem with the boiler overfilling. I noticed that the M.M. 51-2 LWCO didn't actually shut off at the half way mark indicated on the LWCO body. So we lowered it 3" and it cut off at the half way point in the sight glass. The Carlin 301 burner can be down fired to a 3.00 nozzle so we down fired it from the 4.45 nozzle it came with. This has stopped the boiler from overfilling which is what I thought the cause of the water hammer was. After all of this we are still getting water hammer in some of steam piping.
Either I have some steam piping that needs to be repitched or something else is going on. The Hartford loop is 3 1/2" below the water line and the wet reurns are no less than 12" below the water line. Any thoughts?

when
What part of the steam cycle does the hammer acure ?0 -
Sounds to me like...
you're on to something. Check the pitch of the steam mains to start. I just repiped a job where someone installed an F&T trap at the end of the main unnecessarily, and to top it all off, they lifted the end of the main several inches. Removed the F&T and re-pitched the main and all is well.
What pipes does the hammerring seem to come from?

Good question
Big Ed, I'm not sure.
When I go back out I'll check.
I have been thinking aboput this a little more. Most of the house is a 1 pipe system. The lower level (walk out basement)has about 6 radiators that are 2 pipe with out a steam trap. Maybe some one opened up one of the metering valves and I have live steam shooting thru the radiators and flashing in the condensate piping?
