You can try tightening it, but there is a plastic washer that drops in there that wants to be new. May have been copper or paper at the time, but now wants to be plastic.

Is yer setup hot water, steam, one or two pipe, gas or oil....Are we sure it is not the packing nut above that? Just tighten that puppy.

    leaking valve

Hi, I have a leaking valve in my kitchen, and the radiator isn't getting very hot (only the first couple sections. I'm gonna try to attach a picture. The leak is near the middle of the valve, not where the radiator hooks up, but at the point where the steam would take the 90 degee turn into the radiator. I'm not sure how to describe it but the picture shows it pretty well.

How do I fix this? Can I try putting a wrench on the square part above the leak and tighten it or do I have to take it apart and replace something?

I've looked in "The Lost Art..." for a picture of this valve and what's inside it but I didn't find one. I figured I'd put a message here for help before I just take it apart.

    Thanks in advance,

    leak

Yeah, I tightened the nut on the valve and fiddled with the valve itself and got it so it won't leak and the radiator heats up all the way. Thanks.
