how to size-up air vent on steam radiators and main vents

I just bought the 'we got steam heat' book, and I need clarification about air vents. How to size-up radiator vents and main vents. In the book it just says: the key to balancing a one-pipe system lies in matching the radiator vents to radiator. And it just mention main vents.

    Michael, could you be a little more specific? Post the length and diameter of your mains and someone here will tell you how much venting you need. I don't have that particular book but assume he talks about venting radiators according to size. How big are your radiators (in sq. ft. EDR)?
