Welded Steam Piping

I enjoy working for my employer and I saw something I'd never seen before. All the near boiler piping was welded. I know the piping is supposed to expand and contract so if anyone can give me some clarification(maybe large commercial boilers use different practices), I would appreciate it. Also, any tips on staging a 700,000 BTU plus a 500,000 BTU Boiler piped in parallel?

Hot rod just did a weld job on this site. It was nice. I hear swing joints are the key to success. From what I gather it was done all the time in larger industrial units.0 -
A lot of the larger piping is usually welded-saves a ton of time over trying to thread your own. Aint much leeway working with 6" pipe!0
