Exhaust Vent

Can anyone help me answer an annoying question? When venting a Power Vent boiler, such as a WM CGI, why can't the vent pipe exit the house through the wood, so as to utilize the space between the beams, rather than the brick or cement foundation? The exhaust is "cool" to the touch, not hot. Is there any particular reason to cut through the brick or stone? Or is it a code thing?

I believe...
...this would be no problem as long as you use a proper wall thimble on the installation. If you could only exit through the foundation, how would they ever install direct vent boilers in houses built on slabs?0
