new rad in loop cold while others hot - help!

Hello,
I have a hot water system, I've just added a raditator, in parallel, in the basement to an existing loop. The only other rad in the loop is on my first floor and is nice and warm. I've added a drain valve and a ball valve in the loop to bleed the air, which seemed to work. The existing system consists of 1.5" or larger iron (I guess) pipes, the new rad is hooked in with 3/4 copper. Anyway, it doesn't get hot! I have done this before and eventually once I figured out how to get the air out of the loop (with help from this forum), it worked great! The only difference is, this one taps back into the cold water return, where the first one I did I ran a pipe all they way back to the boiler for the cold water return. Also, I used 1" copper for that install.
Any ideas would be tremendously appreciated!

new radiator too low?
Others know more than me, but I am wondering if the new radiator is lower than the loop you tapped off of. If so you may need to use a divertor tee since hot mater wants to rise.0 -
it is
yes, the new rad is lower (in the basement) the other is on the first floor. However, I have a similar (expect again that it has its own return) loop elsewhere in the house and it works fine.0
