Munchkin questions

The vapor is a normal occurence, but the noise concerns me. I would make sure that the gas piping is being supported by something other than the gas valve. I have seen that create noises (and broken fittings).

How loud should a Munchkin be? How much vapor in the exhaust?

    Hi everyone,

My two-week-old Munchkin 199M seems louder than the ancient Weil-McLain 260,000 BTU monster it replaced. It's definitely louder in the boiler room, and as far as I can tell the noise is coming from the boiler enclosure, not the circulating pumps.

I'd describe the noise as a thrum, with a noticeable dip in the sound level every second or so ... thrum .. thrum .. thrum.

I can also hear the sound at night in the bedrooms ... where with the old boiler I might have heard water circulating, but never a thrum.

The other question I have is how much moisture should be coming out through the exhaust? Today was our first day in the low 30s with this boiler, and I was surprised to see big clouds of vapor coming out of the vent ... kind of like the vapor that comes out of the clothes dryer at the start of a load of towels. 8-)

I'm wondering whether the noise and vapor are signs that the boiler may not be adjusted properly. I'll be calling my contractor, but I thought it might help to tap the collective wisdom here.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    h2

    Yes, its normal

Wait untill it gets cold :) You'll really see it. Check out the photos here. I labled them as freeze-up only because they are winter pictures, not because of problems.

You do need to get your contractor back. It sounds like he did'nt set up the combustion correctly.

    Scott
