80 year old house singe pipe & vacuum valve on main vent?

Have an 80 year old house and went to replace the main vent air valve to find that it was a Hoffman 16 vacuum valve. It is a single pipe system with standard risers. Pretty straight forward. Is it OK to replace with a standard non-vacuum air vent?

The house was converted from coal to oil to gas, so I am thinking that maybe it just was never replaced?

Could it be there for other reasons?

Regards,
Mike
