A Water Question...

I live in a rural area with very hard well water. Lots of sulpher and iron in the water (don't remember how much but lots). I am in the process of designing a new water contitioning system adding a rust (iron) removal system and relocating the water softener. My question is where should I get the make-up water for my steam boiler (W-M PEG 55) from. My thinking is that I should get it after the rust removal system but before the softenter (salt type). Anybody have any thoughts on this question?

No filtration?
I can't remember where I read it (probably on this site) but you at the very least do not want to run soft water into your radiant system as it is more corrosive than hard water. I'm not sure on the iron remover. Seems like you won't hurt running extra iron in the system... Guys?0 -

The lesser of the two evils
You certainly do not want to use hard water as the fill water on any hydronic system. The hardness will quickly come out of suspension and attract to the hot boiler surfaces. Think about an electric water heater element.
If the water is very hard, say under 20 grains, think I would rather the softened water.
