Oil Furnaces

inquiries and responses on the subject of which oil furnaces are the best, I am now selling Thermo Pride to my customers. I have offered an installation to a customer and am bidding against a company selling a Regal Brand oil forced air furnace. How does this match up to the Thermo Pride? I tried a google search and couldn't find it. Any input is appreciated. WW

Thermo Pride
Hi Wayne,
Guy (formerly of HTP) here. I have always felt that Thermo Pride was probably the best furnace in the industry. Quiet, efficient. Even the jacket is a great fit. The furnace is heavy as heck though...oooh my back....0 -
Wayne, Look under....................
Boyertown furnace. They make Hallmark, which is there top line; Regal is the second line they offer to match up against the likes of a Goodman. Both the Hallmark and Regal are fine products but the Hallmark is more like the Thermo. P.S. you will not fine a better company to deal with than Boyertown. Hope this helps, John

Wayne there is no comparison to a Thermopride!
Your selling the best!0 -
Thermopride
Thermopride is heavier gauge steel throughout. They use a refractory firepot as opposed to ?? for the other brand. Easy to clean out if ever needed. Octagonal shaped HX for better heat transfer. Best warranty in the biz.
BUT!
Sell yourself man! How many times haven't you heard here that a good installation is key to good performance and long service life. Frankly, I basically ignore whatever someone else is pitching, be it a $2,000 furnace changeout or a $100,000 boiler/snowmelt/radiant combo. Sell the best product (which you have) and sell what you do and why it's better for your customer. It's not about what the other guy is selling and a lot of times it's not about price. It's about you and your work and why it's worth what you're asking. It's up to you to walk the talk.0 -

Wayne, your best bet is selling yourself
Then it matters not what the other company is selling. Why should the customer buy from you? In terms that matter to them, not you.
Once you answer that question for yourself there is no real competition.0 -
I used to stress,
to customers, who took pride in their homes, that my guys hated Thermopride Furnaces because they were so much heavier than the competition. Funny how many of them smiled at that. And. That REAL lifetime warranty didn't hurt either.
For the 5-7 year turnover types, $$ signs was all they cared about.0 -
Thanks for the input guys
Your points are well taken. I think the job is mine no prob. They are looking for quality and I have a history of providing it for them. I was checking the other brand just for my own edumacation. I'm always looking and comparing things. I am offering the new OH6 with variable speed drive. 86% efficiency to boot. I'm wondering if I should recommend a chimney liner for their masinry chimney????? WW

Regal
I will say the Regal is a pretty nice unit. Very good long term servicability, quiet, etc. No comparison to any other low cost unit. However, it is not a TP either.0 -
Liner & stuff
We work with a company that does wood, coal, gas and pellet stoves as well as chimney lining. They do a very nice job and we cross refer each other. Since we're really in different fields it works out well by allowing each of us to do what we do well as well as get a decent source of quality referrals.
The other reason we refer lining to someone else is with NY state's wacky ladder & scaffolding law we stay off roofs.
Soemthing else we've been doing for over a year now is to offer a good, better, best approach so the customer can decide what better suits their needs and budget. If you have low ballers in your area it gives the customer something that's closer in price & equipment quality to what the low baller is offering so they (the customer) can see the price you offer is not so much more but the value is much greater. Once they've made the decision to go with you they can then decide which system they prefer. Very few take the good system. But even if they do you've still got the job and you will do a better job for them than the low baller so it's win-win.0
