A simple way is to install the electric water heater, BUT a better but more expensive way is to install a indirect fired ( boilermate- etc) water heater- min 50 gal, and also a tekmar or similar control w/ outdoor reset and priority for the water heater--- the outdoor reset will adjust the baseboard output similar to the heat loss of the house vs outdoor temp ( saving 10-30 % during the heating - it also can post run the circulator to heat the water heater, the larger size water heater will lessen the on - off of the boiler,, if you have 3-4 zones you can possibly also go to a tekmar tn4 control that will tie the zones together somewhat so the burner isn't bouncing on & off--- ( elec water heater $ 7-1200.00??? indirect w/ outdoor reset app 2200-3000???? what town do you live near??

I use my oil fired furnace for heat and domestic hot water.Since I live in the north eastern part of Pennsylvania I want to cut my annual oil bill. Would it be more economical to install an electric hot water heater(I would use the furnace for the initial heating) or install a timing circuit that would allow me to increase my boiler temperature as needed?

I guess I haven't kept up with the new technology. What is an indirect fired water heater? And what is a Tekmar control with an outdoor reset? Is it similar to an Enotrol system that adjust the boiler temp based on outside temperature? I think I should seek options from local pros for the most economic solution. I live in the Lehigh Valley and $3k is alot to make up in fuel savings.

People look at the higher numbers for the up front cost? If i said I'll be there between 10 and 2 I get you were supposed to be here at 10? An outdoor reset and indirect WILL repay for itself over its life span unless you've got an old BOILER...
