Cleaning and skimming

Cleaning and flushing is where the contractors knowledge is very important. Some home owners can do what ever is needed to be done. Some would be better off having it done by a pro.

The products are both environmentally friendly and were designed to be used in a home situation.

My suggestion is if you feel uneasy, I would hire it out the first time. The pay back to you should be better fuel bills this heating season.

Hope this helps.

Cleaning, skimming and the quest for an efficient boiler

I've gone through a lot of the posts on the wall about cleaning and skimming and I think I have concluded that there are simply too many variables and approaches. Perhaps it's just not a job for the inexperienced homeowner. Vents, stats, etc. I can handle. Cleaning a boiler...I'm not so sure.

Some people say squick or TSP and some say NO WAY to that. Some say yes to chemicals and some say no. I went to a plumbing supply store and they had a myriad of boiler cleaning choices. Then there is Rhomar. They seem to have a pretty good rep. It's all so confusing.

Is boiler cleaning really not something that I can handle? If not then can anyone recommend a reputable plumber to do the job? I am in Queens. I've spoken to a few local plumbers and I am hesitant to pay the up front fee just to look under the hood. I know it might be a necessity because there may be other issues and the fee is pretty standard for a good plumber but $600 just to look under the hood??? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Read DF post on the old Victorian house

He used our products on this old steam system and is one happy camper according to his post today.

You can check out our products at www.rhomarwater.com

    Hydronic or steam.

This is our only business, and that is one of the reasons that we enjoy the rep that we have. The other reason is our products work when poperly used.

    Easy enough for a homeowner?

Thanks George for the quick reply. Do you think it is easy enough for a homeowner to use the Rhomar products? I'm handy but no plumber for sure. Thanks again.

Is there Anybody in Queens, NYC, or LI

    That uses the Rhomar products?

I really need a honest, knowledgeable (especially on steam) and experienced plumber...have already had too many fail me. Sorry, I don't mean to complain but so far that has been my luck.

If the above desciption fits you and you have a spare moment to look at a steam system, I will be a customer for life. Seriously! Thanks.

It's not difficult, just time consuming.
