can this rad be used for hot water heating?

No, pressure will not fill it. It is like filling a bottle that is upside down.

Can a radiator with 2 bottom connections and no top connections be used for hot water heating? i would think that it would need a top connection or the water will never fill it - just flow across the bottom ones... the seller is telling me the pressure will fill it and it will work but he is also interested in selling it...

    thanks.

    Bottom only

Bottom only piping connections will work fine, the question is, are the top sections of the radiator interconnected? Some old steam only radiators were not and do not work so well with hot water.

Should have an 1/8" tap for a bleeder valve somewhere on the top for HW...Or just a place to make the tap yerself...

Cut and paste this, or go to "Hot Tech Topics" and scroll down to "An old radiator Q & A"

    Half way down the page:

"Whats the differance between steam and hot water radiators?"

    Good luck,

I just did a job that must have either got a great deal on some steam rads, or converted from steam to HW, and ALL the rads in the house were steam rads with every section drilled and a bleeder tapped into it. Looked like @#$%, but heated great!!! (took forever to bleed out the system)
