Didn't finish

He won't.So remember pride is a sin and in a week or so call him just to touch base, and explane your concern with somone else finishing your quality work. If he has the bad experiance with a Jonny come lately. He will hire you back. I don't think your set up charge and the cost to re do the other guys work will be all that bad??? Now is the time to be the salesman and explane the time and give the benefits for what your doing. You can't rush art... and you can't rush George either. LOL Best of luck.

    I got fired

The customer grew impatient and tossed me off the job. I started in March, repiped the boiler , replaced all the baseboard heat and did 5 rooms of radiant, remodeled the kithchen and bath, replaced the well tank and all the water pipe, moved the laundry and replaced all of the silcocks. The owner took the summer off to work outside of the house and now he is pissed because I can't jump when he is ready........ oh well. I wish the new plumber good luck.

I was busy lately, but right now we are all caught up with our "crisis" jobs, he could have had my undivided attention all week. This is my first time getting thrown off a job.

I did the wiring, I finished a lot more since the photo. The radiant is all tied in, there is a recirc pump between the valves at the indirect. The system had five zone valves and no way to isolate or purge the system. We changed the baseboard on a 5° day. I was just cleaning out my camera, so ......

    It happens Bill

Customers start to think they've done a renovation and they understand it all.

We have a architect who is doing his own house over. he set up a schedule that went by the wayside a month ago. Nothing was ordered on time, things were back ordered, it happens. BUT wifey poo is making his life miserable.

He called me Wed. to say the soapstone sink would be deliverd in Friday and installed by 12:00. I said my experience has been that it won't be on time and we'll be the bad guys because we won't have enough time to finish it. IT HAS TO BE DONE BY FRIDAY !!

The showed up at 2:00 pm and at 3:30 finished and said it tkaes two hours to dry but we could work on it. My man decided not to take a chance fooling with a custom ordered sink.

Mr Architect is ripping because he has to wait untill Monday for us to finish ..... PPUUULLLEEASE !

It happens to us all Bill.

    You do Great work !

    Scott

Where is he going to find a quality contractor this time of year

He must think all contractors are the same and your standard of work will come automatically with the new guy.

Bet he will be sorry in the long run...

But it is a fact of business life that you never can satisfy all of the folks that you work for. Just a very high percentage of the total.

    If you were no good

    you wouldn't be busy.

Expect a call in a few weeks/months when he realises his mistake.

    my experience

most guys will shy away from coming in to someone elses job. I like the idea of calling the cust back. They can't do anything to you they haven't already done. Hope you have gotten all the money they owe you.

People SUCK.......Nice work though,Call him back and tell him you might be able to fit him in (when you got time) If he blows you off let it go. You did a fine job but for an A**hole that doesn't deserve your quality of work. It sucks when you bust your A** and do a job you're proud of and the cust doesn't admire your work in the least. A piece of dog poo that heated their house would excite them more. Is it our fault we don't put on the proper "show" or is it just people?

    Well, funny thing

the customer called around and got some prices and a little sticker shock. We are rehired and my partner went back last night to finish roughing the bathroom. I will finish up radiant job next week.

It's human nature to be impatient. People try to pin you for an answer when you are too busy and sometime I tend to tell them what they want to hear, "I'll try to get there next week" Next week always has it's own set of problems. All in good time, Rome wasn't built in a day.

    $$$$$$$$$$

Somehow I knew it was going to be about the money.

Maybe I'm crazy but the 1st thought I had when I read your post was that the guy felt he paid you a fortune and somebody else could finish up the loose ends for a lot less.

Why not? You did the meat and potato's somebody else will surley come in and provide the gravy for a lot less. Suprised the homeowner didn't verify this before firing you.

Yesterday I had a interesting conversation with a Facility Manager we do alot of service/install work for. He mentioned that my quotes for boiler installs are typically $1,000 to $1,500 more than another contractor he uses.

OK, you have my attention Mr. Facility Manager. How did the last boiler replacement come out that we bid and lost to this contractor? Not sure, he has been rescheduling for the last 4 weeks, the owner is getting frustrated. Is it that the contractor under bid the job or is it that he is using it as fill in work and when it's installed doesn't matter to him he isn't making much on it any way?

This is the same F.M. that is wondering why he is spending $ this year on the same items he spent $ on last year. Hello it is called Preventetive Maintenance. This needs to be done every year.

Sorry for the rambling and getting off your topic.

    Keith
